SEO PowerSuite vs Semrush: Features, AI Tracking and Pricing Compared (2026)
SEO PowerSuite vs Semrush: compare rank tracking, site audits, backlinks, AI search tracking and list prices, checked on both vendors' own pages.

SEO PowerSuite runs on your computer. Semrush runs in your browser. SEO PowerSuite is desktop software for Windows, Mac or Linux, sold as a yearly license. Semrush bills monthly or yearly and bundles AI search tracking into its higher plans. The SEO jobs are the same: keyword research, rank tracking, site audits and backlink analysis.
Pick SEO PowerSuite if you track a lot of keywords or crawl big sites on a small budget, and you’re fine running the work from your own machine. Pick Semrush if you want large cloud databases for competitor research and daily rankings with no setup. Semrush is also your pick if you need to track how ChatGPT and other AIs mention your brand.

What SEO PowerSuite does today
SEO PowerSuite is a set of four desktop apps from Link-Assistant.Com. Rank Tracker handles rankings and keyword research. WebSite Auditor crawls sites and checks on page SEO. SEO SpyGlass analyzes backlinks, and LinkAssistant runs link prospecting and outreach. You can buy the full suite or one app on its own.
The work runs on your computer, so SEO PowerSuite doesn’t sell by credits or report counts. Paid plans put no cap on projects or keywords, and crawls have no page limit. Cloud storage for projects does have a cap: 20 projects on Professional, and 400 projects with 4,000 reports on Enterprise and Max. The same team makes RankDots, a separate AI tool that groups keywords into topic clusters and writes content. The team has over 50 people, and the suite averages about 10,000 weekly active users.
SEO PowerSuite history
Aleh Barysevich and Viktar Khamianok started the company in 2004. Their first app was LinkAssistant, built for link building and outreach. Rank Tracker came in 2005 as one of the first keyword tools of its kind. SEO SpyGlass followed in 2006 for backlink checks, and work on WebSite Auditor began in 2008.
In 2009 the team bundled the four apps and named the set SEO PowerSuite. By 2016 it had passed 2 million users.
After that the suite grew one feature at a time. In 2019 SEO SpyGlass got backlink history, WebSite Auditor added its Content Editor, and teams got cloud storage for shared projects. Core Web Vitals checks came in 2021 through Google’s PageSpeed API. Rank Tracker added a keyword grouping tool in 2022 and one year of ranking history in 2024. Its newest addition is Google AI Overviews tracking, which shows which keywords trigger an AI Overview and whether your site appears in it.

What Semrush does today
Semrush is a cloud marketing suite built around SEO. The SEO plan covers SEO alone. Starter, Pro+ and Advanced combine the SEO Toolkit with the AI Visibility Toolkit, so they add AI search tracking. Semrush sells those three under the Semrush One name.
Extra toolkits cover traffic and market data, local SEO, content, social, ads and AI PR. Each plan includes one user, and extra users start at $45 a month.
Semrush history
Oleg Shchegolev and Dmitri Melnikov founded Semrush in 2008. It grew out of Seodigger and SeoQuake, a Firefox extension that showed SEO data in the browser. The name comes from SEM, short for search engine marketing. In December 2020 the styling changed from “SEMrush” to “Semrush.”
In 2018 Semrush raised $40 million in a round led jointly by Greycroft, E.ventures and Siguler Guff. It went public on the New York Stock Exchange in March 2021 under the ticker SEMR. Then it bought other marketing companies, including Backlinko in 2022 and Exploding Topics and Third Door Media in 2024.
AI search came next. The AI Toolkit launched in March 2025 to track brands in ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity. Semrush One followed in October 2025 and put the SEO Toolkit and the AI Visibility Toolkit in one plan. Adobe agreed to buy Semrush in November 2025 for $1.9 billion and closed the deal on April 28, 2026. Semrush now runs as part of Adobe.
SEO PowerSuite vs Semrush keyword research
| Feature | SEO PowerSuite | Semrush |
|---|---|---|
| Keyword database | 216 million keywords | 28.8 billion keywords |
| Research methods | 20+ methods in Rank Tracker | Keyword research tools, full set on Starter and up |
| Competitor keywords | Competitor lookups and a keyword gap tool | Any domain’s ranking keywords |
| Metrics per keyword | Volume, competition, difficulty, PPC data | Volume, difficulty and more |
| Daily limits | None on paid plans | Set by plan |
Semrush’s database holds 28.8 billion keywords. SEO PowerSuite’s holds 216 million. Semrush collects Google results for hundreds of millions of popular keywords through data partners, and you can type any domain to see the keywords it ranks for. The SEO plan includes basic keyword research. Starter adds the full keyword research and optimization tools.
Rank Tracker brings more than 20 keyword research methods, competitor keyword lookups and a keyword gap tool. For each keyword it shows search volume, competition, difficulty and PPC data. If you also want to see which keywords pull AI Overviews and which sites those answers cite, Arrowsterr’s Organic Search shows the Google top 10 with AI Overview sources for each keyword.
Stronger: Semrush. A database that size turns up more long tail and niche keywords, and its competitor reports come straight from the cloud with no setup.
SEO PowerSuite vs Semrush rank tracking
| Feature | SEO PowerSuite | Semrush |
|---|---|---|
| Keywords tracked | Unlimited on paid plans | 500 (SEO, Starter), 1,500 (Pro+), 5,000+ (Advanced) |
| Update schedule | You set it: daily, weekly or monthly | Daily |
| Results scanned | Up to 1,000 per keyword | Not public |
| Competitors per project | 5 (Professional), 40 (Enterprise, Max) | Not public |
| History | 1 year on Professional | Historical SEO data on Pro+ and up |
| Where checks run | On your computer, through scheduled tasks | In the cloud |
SEO PowerSuite wins rank tracking on volume and price. Paid plans track unlimited keywords on unlimited sites. Rank Tracker checks Google, Bing, Yahoo and hundreds of other search engines, with local and mobile results. It scans up to 1,000 results per keyword, on whatever schedule you set.
The catch is where the checks run. Rank Tracker runs them from the app on your computer through scheduled tasks. Semrush runs every check in the cloud, so new data shows up each day with no upkeep on your side.
SEO PowerSuite vs Semrush site audit
| Feature | SEO PowerSuite | Semrush |
|---|---|---|
| Crawl size | Full sites on paid plans, 500 URLs on the free version | Not public per plan |
| Technical and on page checks | Yes, WebSite Auditor | Yes, Site Audit on every paid plan |
| Content editor | SEO tips as you type and a TF-IDF view | Content optimization on Pro+ |
| Sitemaps and robots.txt | Builds both | Checks both in Site Audit |
| AI crawler checks | Not public | AI-ready Site Audit on Starter and up |
| Where it runs | Your computer | The cloud |
WebSite Auditor crawls entire sites on every paid plan, and the free version stops at 500 URLs. It checks technical and on page issues. Its content editor gives SEO tips as you type and a TF-IDF view of top ranking pages. It also builds sitemaps and robots.txt files.
Semrush puts Site Audit on every paid plan. Starter and up add an AI-ready Site Audit that checks how well AI crawlers can read your site. Page limits per plan are not public. To see in seconds whether GPTBot, ClaudeBot or PerplexityBot can reach your pages, run the free AI crawler checker.
Stronger: SEO PowerSuite for big crawls on a budget, since paid plans have no crawl cap. Semrush if you want audits that run in the cloud and check AI crawlers.
SEO PowerSuite vs Semrush backlink data
| Feature | SEO PowerSuite | Semrush |
|---|---|---|
| Index | Own Link Explorer index | Own backlink crawler |
| Backlinks | 6.5 trillion | 43 trillion |
| Referring domains | Not public | 808 million |
| Crawl pace | Not public | About 10 billion pages a day |
Semrush’s own crawler reads about 10 billion pages a day. Its index holds 43 trillion backlinks and 808 million domains.
SEO SpyGlass draws on SEO PowerSuite’s own Link Explorer index of 6.5 trillion backlinks. It can also pull links from your Google Search Console and Google Analytics. It has a link penalty risk audit and a disavow file maker, and Enterprise compares link profiles for up to 11 sites. LinkAssistant adds 10 ways to find link prospects and a built in email client for outreach. Each vendor counts links its own way, so the two totals don’t compare one to one.
Semrush has the bigger index. For link building, though, SEO PowerSuite is the better fit, because prospecting and outreach sit in the same suite as your link checks.
SEO PowerSuite vs Semrush AI visibility tracking
| Feature | SEO PowerSuite | Semrush |
|---|---|---|
| Google AI Overviews | Every plan, the free version included | Starter and up, as Google AI |
| ChatGPT | No | Starter and up |
| Gemini | No | Starter and up |
| Perplexity | No | Starter and up |
| Prompts tracked | Your tracked keywords | 50 daily (Starter), 100 daily (Pro+) |
| Standalone option | None | AI Visibility Toolkit, $99/mo for 25 prompts and 1 domain |
Semrush wins this one by a wide margin. If you need to know how ChatGPT talks about your brand, SEO PowerSuite can’t tell you.
SEO PowerSuite tracks Google AI Overviews on every plan. It doesn’t track ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude or Perplexity. RankDots is a content tool and doesn’t track AI answers either.
Semrush has two routes for AI tracking. Its Semrush One plans track 50 prompts daily on Starter and 100 on Pro+, across Google Search, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini. Advanced has a custom prompt limit. The AI Visibility Toolkit costs $99 a month on its own for 25 prompts and 1 domain, with no free trial. The SEO plan includes AI visibility reports for any domain and AI sentiment, with no prompt tracking quota.
For a wider look at tools that track AI answers, see our list of the best AI visibility tools. Arrowsterr’s AI Visibility tracks six AIs, Claude and Perplexity included.

No. SEO PowerSuite tracks Google AI Overviews on every plan. It doesn’t track ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity. Semrush tracks those AIs on its Starter plan and up.
Can SEO PowerSuite replace Semrush?
For rank tracking and site audits, many users can switch. Competitor research is harder, since its keyword and link databases are smaller than Semrush’s. It also doesn’t track AI answers beyond Google AI Overviews.

Count your keywords first. If you track thousands across many client sites, the $349 Professional license covers all of them, and the outreach tools help if your agency builds links. If you need ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity in the same account as your rankings, Semrush is the one of these two that tracks them.
Run SEO PowerSuite’s free version and Semrush’s 7 day trial on the same site, then compare the reports you use most.
